Hey everyone! and welcome back to the series for the hunt of "The Best Player in Goal, Defence, Midfeild and Attack" so far in Brazil. Now here we are going to put some light on the "Best Defender" in the World Cup so far.
Defenders are often blamed to spoil the the most exiting spectacle of football "dribbling" but a good sliding tackle is as enjoyable to watch as Neymar's dribble or James Rodrigez's finish . And its no rocket science that you need to have a rock solid defence in order to be crowned "The Best In The World".
First up is Hummels , what a man mountain this guy is in the German defence . He is a very dynamic defender who has the capablity of bursting out of the defence to create chances for his teammates. He has scored "2 goals" in the tornament so far and his goal against France booked their berth in last 4 of the World Cup.
The 27 year old Spurs defender has been a consistent figure in the Belgium defence . He had a pretty good tournament until his team was knocked out of the tournament by one swing of boot by Gonzalo Higuain . He has scored 1 goal and recovered ball as much as 25 times for his team in the tournament .
Netherlands have had a great tournament so far and they will be keen to go one better this time . DE Vrij has been a key figure in the Dutch defence . The 22 year old has scored 1 goal so far and has recovered ball 34 times for his team conceding 6 fouls and earning himself 1 yellow.
Now the defender who is known for his curly hairstyle and curling freekicks . David Luiz has recently joined PSG on a big money move and has proven his worth in this tournament scoring twice , one of which was a spectacular freekick which turned out to be the deciding goal in the tie against Colombia .
If there is a defender in this tournament who has stood out from the rest , it has to be Thiago Silva . He is a really solid wall in an otherwise shaky Brazilian defence . The 29 year old is just impossible to get past in one-on-one situations or to beat in air . He is a nightmare for strikers with his crunching tackles and usually possess great aerial threat on free kicks and corners .
Varane bursted onto the scene as an 18 year old for "los Blancos" after a string of impressive performances for French side RC Lens . He was discovered by none other than Zidane himself who also played a vital role in bringing him to Real . Now at just 21 he has been tested against some of the best strikers in the world and he usually stand his ground and this World Cup has been no exception . Although he was the guilty party when Hummels outmusled his to score the goal which threw France out of the competition but his talent still remains unquestionable.
That's pretty much it for this time . Hope you liked it . Don't forget to vote for your 'best defender' in the Poll Section on the right . Subscribe, Like and Stay tuned for future updates .
